SCHOOL NOTES

On Thursday afternoon, 24th June 1909, a large audience assembled in the Gymnasium and witnessed the annual Parliamentary debate and arithmetic competitions for prizes presented by by members of the Old Boys' Club...The arithmetic competitions were most interesting, and the pupils displayed a marked degree of facility and accuracy. The prize for mental arithmetic was won by G. Raymond Joyner after a tie with Athol D. Horne, who was awarded the second prize. Elizabeth Peattie received the prize for the highest aggregate of marks in the two competitions. The prize in the junior arithmetic competition was awarded to Mary Dalrymple.

The school was closed for the summer vacation on Friday, 25th June, with the uual exhibition and prize distribution. The Gymnasium was completely filled with the pupils and their friends. Principal Stewart , Chairman of the College Governors presided.....Principal Stewart presented the college medals and prizes to the successful pupils, and Mr Thomas Brown, the oldest of the 'Old Boys', presented the medals and prizes given by the 'Old Boys'. Mr Brown thanked the 'Old Boys' for allowing him the privilege of presenting their special prizes. Mr Brown said ... The arithmetic competitions also showed the excellent training that was given at this institution.

At the Leavin certificate Examinations held in April last...the number of certificates gained in Mathematics was 4 Higher and 10 Lower, in Analytical Geometry - 2 (1 with distinction)
