780 students from the UK qualified for this year's British Maths Olympiad Round 1 (BMO 1) having gained a sufficiently high score in the UK Senior Maths Challenge which was held last November. Of these 780 contestants 18 were from Scotland and 3 from Madras College. In Mid-January they sat a 3hr30min paper consisting of five 10 mark questions allowing a total allocation of 50 marks. The paper this year was reasonably accessible with most candidates making reasonable progress in one or two questions. 100 top contestants are invited to sit Round 2 (BMO 2) which will be held this year on Tuesday 29th February. Our student Sue Liu has been invited to sit this second round contest, the only student invited from Scotland. She deserves congratulations on this great achievement and we wish her well for the 2nd round. Here are the results for our three Madras College contestants:
