On Friday, 17th November 29 teams of 4 students (two S3 and two S4) from all over Scotland converged on Northern College, Dundee to compete for the The Enterprising Mathematics in Scotland Trophy. Before the summer break , in the run up to this final, Fife Region held a qualifying contest to select two teams to represent Fife. In this preliminary round Madras College and Dunfermline High School emerged the winners. Our team consisted of Joe Neilson and James Milne from S4 and Natalie Jackson and Iain Brodie from S3. In the final Madras College won 3rd place overall. The finish was very close with our team scoring 810 points compared to the winning team's score of 866 points. There was a wide range of events on the day ranging from the Poster Contest (40 minutes to construct a poster on a given theme) to the complicated head-to-head battles of the Swiss Contest. The Speed and Team Contests were followed at the end by the dangerous and fast Relay Contest where competitors raced around the hall to fetch new questions in a gruelling race against the clock.
Congratulations to our students for acheiving this remarkable result (our best for many years).
