FIFE JUNIOR MATHS CHALLENGE 1999

Congratulations to our Madras Junior Mathematics team who put in an excellent performance at this years Fife Junior Mathematics Challenge. The competition took place at Auchmuty High School on the 22nd June 1999 and involved teams of four S1 students from most Secondary Schools in Fife. The teams had to puzzle their way through three rounds of challenging problems.

The first round was the Team Event and through a tremendous effort, showing great organisational skills with excellent team work, Madras College took the lead.

In the second round, which tested the competitors spatial awareness, Waid Academy took over first place but only by three points.

With the tension building the final third round arrived - the relay round. In this round team members work in pairs to solve problems as quickly as possible, rushing out to markers at the front of the hall to collect the next question for the other pair to work on. After a gallant effort our Madras four were unable to regain the lead from Waid Academy and they finished a very close second.

A great result for our first year team . Well done Iain Brodie, Hamish Findlay, Andrew Moir and Neil Porter. And thanks to Ms Susan Thomson for training the team and encouraging them through the contest.
