The Maths

This annual contest is run by the
Scottish Mathematical Council and is open to students in
schools from the whole of Scotland. There are five
geographical Sections: The North; East and Central (Madras
College is in this section); Lothian and Borders; West;
South West. The contest involves two sets of 5 problems and
although the sets of problems and issue dates are common to
all Sections, the prize structure within each Section is
independent of the other Sections. The contest is further
divided according to age with the following divisions:
Junior (S1/S2) , Middle (S3/S4) and Senior (S5/S6). Finally
there are three categories of award: Gold, Silver and
Bronze.
In this year's contest Madras
College achieved a creditable 6 Gold, 2 Silver and 10 bronze
awards. Our Gold and Silver prizewinners were awarded their
