Mathematics is one of the core
subjects for all pupils in S1 - S4. Our courses
follow the national 5 - 14 guidelines in S1/S2 and
the Standard Grade arrangements in S3/S4.
In S5/S6 pupils may choose to continue with Maths
at Higher level or to take one of the Intermediate
levels, in which the starting point is determined
by their level of previous attainment. In S6 we
offer a selection of Advanced Higher Courses.
In addition to these courses, we encourage all
pupils to participate in some of the wide range of
national and international competitions available.
We see this as an important form of stimulation and
enrichment with potential benefits for all pupils,
not just the very able. We also run a lunchtime
Maths club for younger pupils.
We are conscious that the rapid advances in
computing technology and projection systems will
open up new opportunities for developing genuine
mathematical thinking in our classrooms and we are
keen to respond imaginatively to these
possibilities. We are also trying to find ways of
using the Internet productively in all our courses.
One of the results of this effort is to be seen in
