Up to six players can play. Roll the three dice, combine the three numbers using the basic arithmetical operations and if your answer is still on the board breathe a sigh of relief. If not then can you combine them in a different way to get one of the numbers remaining on the board? Tension is increased by the graphical timer. Excellent for sharpening mental arithmetic skills.

Dots & Boxes

This is the classic Paper & Pencil game. You may play the computer or set the preferences for human v human. The better variant is when you are not forced to complete a box when you can and there is an option for this also in the preferences. This leads to a more strategic game.

Click the help button on the screen to read the rules.

Haste

Download

A two player card game (or one against the computer) Basically, Haste is like having two people playing a simple kind of solitaire at the same time as fast as they can, but playing on top of each other's cards as well as their own! Also, the card values can run either up or down, not only in one direction as in solitaire. Of course, at some point, both players will be unable to play, and in this case they draw new cards to refresh the discard piles--this is called "spitting". The winner is the first person to run out of cards or the one with fewer cards left at the end of game. The rules are in a seperate file in the Haste folder.

Nim Games

This is a suite of Nim-type games. Two may play in "human v human" mode or one may play in "human v computer" mode. Comprehensive rules are given in the Apple menu under Help. Games included are:

Nim, Prime Nim, NorthCroft's Nim, Turn-a-block, My Daddy makes more money than yours, Corner the Queen, Corner the Superqueen, Corner the King and Corner the Superking.

There is a misere option ie first to "win" loses.

Numzum

Download

In this demo version you may only play against the computer. You are presented with a grid of numbers, some positive some negative. At your turn you select a number from the highlighted row (or column). This number is added to your score. The column (or row) that your chosen number was in becomes the highlighted column (or row) for your opponent to then choose her number. A devious game of strategy. Watch your score frustratingly rise and fall.

The product made by the two marked numbers (by your marker & your opponent's marker) on the strip is highlighted in your colour on a grid of numbers. You aim to get 4-in-a-row. Options include negative numbers and fractions and several difficulty levels. Simple but effective!

RummyTile

Download Site

RummyTile is a game for 2 to 4 players in which the object is to eliminate all your tiles by forming them into sets of runs and groups. There is room for strategic thinking in the creative way that runs and sets may be broken up and reassembled on the board. There is a separate file that accompanies the game which explains the detailed rules and some hints about strategy.

Think Ahead

Download

One player plays the rows and the other plays the columns in an array of positive and negative numbers. Choose a number from your row (or column) and add it to your score, It's then wiped from the board but your opponent's next choice is restricted to that particular column (or row). Planning ahead is essential. A fascinating game that can also be played against the computer.

Tic-Mac-Toe

Download

This is a nice rendering of the traditional Tic-Tac-Toe or Naughts-and-Crosses game. Don't forget that the misere version (where the first player to win loses!) will confuse those that can play perfectly! There's life in the old games yet!!

The aim is to create a loop in your own colour or a line from edge to opposite edge at least 8 tiles wide. There is no board as such. Tiles are placed side-by-side and create an ever expanding pattern. The instructions and rules are to be found under the Help menu. To start play go to Game menu and choose Player option, type in names of players then choose New Game in the Game menu. Clicking on the screen will produce a new flashing tile. Repeated clicks will give all possible options of orientation. Press the return key to finally place your tile.

There is a large strategy help section with the game which will improve your competitive play considerably (national and international Trax Tournaments exist so this is a game with serious potential!)

Unite

Download

This is a strategic board game for two players (Human v Human or Human v Computer). The aim is to unite your two separate groups of pieces into one group before your opponent does. You can eliminate your opponent's pieces but do you want to? The less pieces she has then the easier it is for her to unite her remaining pieces. This is a subtle and intriguing game
