Design and Technology plays an important role in society, with industry relying on a workforce with the skills developed in all areas of Design and Technology curriculum. Subjects on offer enable young people to be inventive in designing practical solutions to problems and so bring about change and improvements in existing situations. Skills and knowledge are developed through design challenges, engineering challenges and practical activities.

Design and Technology staff strive to create and deliver courses that are engaging, stimulating and challenging for all learners, developing transferrable skills and problem-solving skills.

 

Broad General Education

In the BGE, pupils gain experience in all subject areas; Design and Manufacture, Engineering Science, Graphic Communication, Practical Woodworking. Learners gain experience of applying creative, practical and problem-solving skills. Pupils also develop their literacy and numeracy skills across the subjects offered. The experiences in BGE allow young people to make informed choices when choosing courses in the senior phase.
