Introduction to Childcare Elective
Course Outline
This course provides the pupils with the experience of planning activities and
lessons for young children. It covers the aspects of development and gives them
the opportunity to see what would be expected in the senior phase.
If any pupils are considering a job working with children, this is a great course to
work on building confidence and expressing creatively.
Pupil Eligibility
Pupils who have an interest working within the childcare sector, e.g. nursery
teacher, primary school teacher, social work sector.

Fashion and Textile Elective
Course Outline
This course encourages imagination and creativity while preparing and making
a variety of different textile items. e.g.
cushions, tote bags, drawstring bag, makeup bag, bunting, soft toys
Use is also made of recycled materials in creative ways.
Pupils will develop a variety of craft and sewing skills using the sewing machine
and hand techniques such as embroidery and appliqué.
This course is a perfect stepping stone to studying Fashion and Textiles in S4,
5 or 6.

Pupils who have an interest in fashion and in sewing a selection of different
items.

Home Economics - Practical Cookery Elective
Course Outline
The course offers pupils valuable information and skills to help build a strong
basis for life and career opportunities in Health and Food, Practical Cookery
and Bakery for example; hospitality, health/nutrition, sports nutrition, food
science, health promotion and product development to name a few. This
course is an enjoyable taster of what is involved in Home Economics
qualification classes.
Pupils will develop awareness of the Health and Food industry including;
ü Food preparation
ü Developing knowledge to gain Royal Environmental Health Institute of
Scotland certificate in Practical Cookery Skills
ü Creative baking
ü Food for health
ü Product development, Meal in a Mug
Pupil Eligibility
Pupils who have an interest in practical cookery, baking and cake decorating.
