S1-S3 Classics and Latin
S1 Classical Studies
Find out about the Gods of Mount Olympus and the stories the Greeks told, leading up to the famous Trojan War. The course also includes a taster lesson in Latin to give you a flavour of another new subject. Attracting enthusiastic pupils at all stages, Latin is recognised as improving your general ability in many other subjects.
Pupils in S2 and S3 have the opportunity to take the following elective courses:
No one loves and quarrels, desires and deceives as boldly and brilliantly as Greek gods and goddesses. They are like us, only more so. This is one of the reasons we are still fascinated by Greek mythology today. In this elective, we will explore some of the stories from Greek mythology and the influence they have had on Western culture, right up to contemporary popular culture.
Life in Pompeii through Latin
Pompeii is one of the most significant proofs of Roman civilization and, like an open book, provides outstanding information on the art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past. Using the Latin story of Caecilius and his family in the run up to the disastrous eruption of Mount Vesuvius, we will explore the history and culture of Pompeii.
